How to form an LLC or corporation the official way: pick a structure (SBA, IRS), file with your state's Secretary of State (find yours through NASS), and get a free EIN directly from the IRS. Since August 2026 FinCEN's final rule means U.S. companies do not file beneficial ownership (BOI) reports, so ignore letters or emails demanding a BOI filing fee. SCORE and SBDCs give free help. Paid formation services are listed last and labeled; they file the same state forms you can file yourself, for a fee on top of the state fee.
