# Rain Barrels - webcentive

Rain barrels, cisterns and rainwater harvesting for gardens, homesteads and off-grid homes. A 1,000 square foot roof sheds about 600 gallons in an inch of rain. Rain barrels are legal in every U.S. state, but some states, such as Colorado, limit how much you can store, and a few regulate larger systems or drinking use, so check your state rules. Keep barrels covered and screened so mosquitoes can't breed, and don't drink untreated roof water. Many towns sell discounted barrels. Stores below are commercial.
