Ringtones, text tones and alert sounds for your phone. Today most tones are free: you can turn a song or sound clip you own into a ringtone and set a different tone for each contact. On an iPhone, buy tones in the iTunes Store or make your own in GarageBand; most Android phones accept MP3 or OGG files saved to the phone's Ringtones folder. In the 2000s, ringtone 'subscriptions' sold through texts and TV ads were a common source of surprise charges, so check your phone bill for charges you don't recognize and ask your carrier to block third-party billing. Apps and stores below are commercial.
