Where to get software safely, then free and paid programs by type. Download only from the maker's own site or an official app store. Fake download sites buy search ads that look like the real thing, and cracked or pirated copies often carry malware that steals passwords. A pop-up or phone call saying your computer is infected and giving you a number to call is a tech support scam; Microsoft, Apple and your antivirus company won't call you, and nobody legitimate asks you to pay with gift cards or crypto. Keep automatic updates on. Software makers and stores below are commercial.
