Spring water for drinking, from bottled brands to springs on your own land, water safety first. Spring water that comes straight out of the ground is not automatically clean: it can carry bacteria such as E. coli, parasites like Giardia, nitrates from farms and septic systems, and natural arsenic or uranium. No agency tests a private spring or well for you, so test it yourself at a state certified lab at least once a year for bacteria (and after floods or a change in taste or color), protect the spring box from surface runoff, and boil or disinfect water from wild and roadside springs before drinking. Bottled spring water is regulated by the FDA as a food, including what can be called 'spring water' on the label. Brands below are commercial.
