Water Filters

Water filters, starting with your water. City water: read your utility's yearly quality report. Private well: nobody tests it for you, so test at least yearly for bacteria and nitrate, and for lead, arsenic or PFAS if they are found nearby. Then pick a filter certified (NSF/ANSI or WQA) for the exact contaminant you need removed; look up the model, not just the brand. Change cartridges on schedule. Off-grid and in emergencies, boil or disinfect water, or use a filter rated for bacteria and protozoa. Brands and stores below are commercial.
